October 21, 2011

It's been a few days since Josh's surgery and I have been back and forth between the hospital and home. Sometimes I seriously don't even know what day it is. The first part of the week was really hard for Josh, he was in a great deal of pain and was very worried that his bowels might not start up. He was really struggling and did not feel like getting up and out of bed. Yesterday was a different story though and he started getting up first thing in the morning and went for walks and did some physical therapy too. All of it paid off and he finally passed gas last night! He got the nasal gastric tube out and finally got to start on clear liquids last night. His first request was strawberry jell-o! Today he started passing more gas and had his first bowel movement. I have never been so happy about bowel progress in my life! He has been to physical therapy today and been working very hard. Day before yesterday I was here when the surgeon came in to look at the incisions and drains, I am pleased to say that it all looks so good. He has three drains in his abdomen and the doctor thinks he will probably go home with two of them. It also looks as though he will probably be discharged on Monday. Thank you all so much for the prayers and support.

All our love,
Josh and Kalyn

Specific prayers for passing gas worked! What a blast!
